CDA Subject Area 5: Managing an effective program operation

This 10-hour training course is designed to equip child care providers with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively manage program operations. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of administrative roles, community resources, program planning, staff management, and operational procedures. By completing this course, child care providers will be better prepared to create high-quality, efficient, and compliant programs that meet the needs of children and families. Topics covered include: understanding administrative responsibilities, utilizing community resources, implementing effective assessments, developing a business plan, managing staff effectively, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring safety and compliance.

B. Objectives / Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this training, the learner will be able to:
  1. Explain the importance of using contracts and employee training & screening procedures.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the necessary content of employee and parent contracts
  3. Identify staff evaluation tools and evaluation timelines that will assist with staff supervision and monitoring performance
  4. Demonstrates understanding of community organizations that support early childhood programs.
  5. Identify and demonstrate an understanding of the content requirements for staff orientation.
  6. Demonstrate understanding of the roles and responsibilities of an administrator in a child care program.
  7. Identify and use community resources to support learning.
  8. Recognize the importance of maintaining confidentiality and privacy in communication with staff.
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of establishing a business plan.
  10. Identify resources that will assist with record keeping.
  11. Explain when to report child abuse
  12. Describe ways administrators can observe and assess staff.
  13. Give examples of time management strategies administrators can use to balance record keeping and supervising.
  14. Define what it means for administrators to mentor staff in early education.
  15. Explain the benefits of administrators supporting staff in goal setting.
  16. Recognize informal and formal assessments to plan activities, individualize programs, and improve program quality.
  17. Demonstrate understanding of the steps and procedures for reporting accidents
  18. Identify effective strategies for interviewing potential new staff.
  19. Identify necessary information and format for a business plan
  20. Identify budget line items and basic budget development strategies
  21. Demonstrate an understanding of the information that should be communicated regularly with staff, parents, and the community
Criteria to earn CEUs:
Certificates are awarded when the following criteria have been met by the learner:
  1. Class has been paid in full
  2. All material has been reviewed
  3. All review questions and final test have been completed with a passing score of 80% or higher.
Learning Assessment Method:
Learners will be assessed through questions after every section is completed. Learners will not be allowed to proceed to the next section of the training until all questions have been answered correctly. Learners will be presented with a final test composed of true/false and multiple choice questions. Upon successful completion of the training, learners will receive their certificate by email.

Learning Methodology:
Online material will be presented in the form of slides, accompanied with speech. Videos will be used to demonstrate ideas and concepts. Charts and tables will be used for illustration.

Logistics/Required Technology:
A stable internet connection is required for the completion of this course. Users are highly encouraged to take their online course on Google Chrome on either a laptop or desktop computer. Speakers and/or headphones are also required to hear speech.
